![]() ![]() Those who continued to play it obviously liked how it played for the most part. The people singing its praises most likely didn't play it often or at all in 3.0/4.0, and with the amount of "I'm now levelling MCH to 70" posts popping up, it's even more apparent. You're working on climbing a 25 degree angle on your worst days, even if we factor in raiding.īecause whatever folks might say about MCH, DRK or SAM in Stormblood you can still achieve max level, get a relic and max item level. In XIV you just DF and go do some fates, beast tribes or leves. The path to 75 for a DPS in XI was a 90 degree angle unless you gamed the system hard (burn parties) or had a static party for leveling. Getting better gear isn't a question of if, but when. In FFXIV, a DPS may trail behind healers and tanks by a couple days in terms of leveling. Playing a Corsair, Ninja, Ranger, Beast master or Puppetmaster well required the greatest time and Gil investments of all the jobs. They didn't get the fix they needed until Wings of the Goddess and by then the job's reputation was well beyond sunk.įFXI players were much more prone to superstition and risk averse since investment in any role was tremendous (trend-chasers aside). As bad as MCHs have had it through Heavensward and Stormblood, I can say Ranger suffered a much, much worse fate. ![]() SE decided that with Ranger, the cure for lice was decapitation. Monks and Dragoons had to adhere much more strongly to the meta to get a group at all and this was not a time of Duty Finders, Party Finders or Normal and Savage raids.īuilding your own party meant playing twenty questions with healers and support players and, to a lesser extent, tanks. Other DPS jobs would be condemned for that kind of behavior (yet people actually let similarly bad Bards and Corsairs slide). That was what needed to be fixed regarding the job. This meant you could be a Ranger with low level gear and level 35 scorpion arrows, never touching guns or crossbow and just having an average bow and never use food and still be topdog. Piercing damage resistance didn't apply to Slug Shot and Sidewinder whereas with other DPS roles most damage resistance applied to them. There was a serious problem with Ranger before that nerf, though. And then BLM was nerfed for similar reasons. And yes, I watched friend walk out on Ranger for BLM. I took up Ranger before the expansion, anticipating it might play well into Corsair, but loved it enough to take it to max level along with Corsair when it came. You could miss with Eagle Eye Shot, the Two Hour Ability, which was pretty much unheard of with any other Two Hour. They applied distance-based positionals to bows, crossbows and guns but provided no tools to measure said distance to Ranger or Corsair. ![]() SE took the formula for ranged accuracy (Ranger's defining passive trait) and ranged damage and broke it. That said, the nerf to Ranger during late CoP, all of ToAU on into Wing of the Goddess wasn't just a nerf, it was a straight-up hitjob. FFXI was chock full of metagame trend-chasers in a much nastier way than FFXIV will ever know. I think that's more applicable to green DPS walking out on healer. I'm likely preaching to the choir here, but I thought I'd add some context.
